Roger Vivier Boutique Opening
Roger Vivier, the famous stiletto creator, has finally opened their first boutique in Downtown Beirut, and Cloud of Lace had the pleasure to attend its grand opening which took place on the 12th of this December.
For those who are unfamiliar with the brand, the designer -then working alongside Christian Dior- debuted the Stiletto heel back in 1954. Roger Vivier’s clientele ranged from formerly renowned movie stars, princesses, high-class society and fashion icons, to Queen Elizabeth II, who wore a creation of his to her Coronation in 1953.
Esteemed fashion critics often referred back to Vivier (1907-1998) as a sculptor, rather than a designer, because of his obsession with shapes. “Lines have always enthralled me,” the designer said. “I’ll resketch my drawing 500 times to check the exactness of the idea and respect the foot’s architecture.”
After his death, Vivier’s successor, designer Bruno Frisoni worked on expanding the label to include other women accessories and handbags, launching them in 2003.
Vivier’s signature designs are still preserved: buckles (in silver, suede, and crystal), the virgule and comma-shaped heels, are recreated using houndstooth, patent leather, beading and applique reminiscing of another era in shoe design. The autumn/winter collection now resides on the elegant shelves and tables of the newly opened boutique here in Beirut.
